WHY A LOT OF PEOPLE REFUSE TO HELP!

Francoise de la Rochefoucauld once said, “The Man who is ungrateful is often less to blame than his benefactor.”

From time immemorial, the act of giving has been an unspoken law in every society in human race. The prosperous are ‘obligated’ to give to the less prosperous as per, “the society gave to you therefore give back to the society”. Even the Bible reflects the karma of giving; “give and it shall be given unto you”; “A generous person will prosper;
whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” Thus, giving, like the law of karma brings about greater reward to one.

In this period of Covid’19, it is no news that hunger is hitting hard on the less privileged and a lot of good minded people have opened their heart and pockets to help. We have heard of private individuals and world organisations giving relief funds to the Federal Government here in Nigeria, we have also seen video evidence of food distribution in communities, while these are public transparency of help, there are some people who anonymously do ‘give away’ on social media and even in the community. It is then disheartening that the ones being helped feel a sense of entitlement to be helped like it is a right. Some even ask for more with terrible attitudes without appreciating the previous relief. Below is an example of what I mean;

From the screenshot above, and what has really been going in the media world, the mirror of the true nature of human kind is reflects. It reflects the immoral attitude of human kind. It is understandable that we are desperate to survive but why go the indecent way to do so?

“A man can be ungrateful, the human race is not so.

John Milton

Not to shift away from today’s focus, what I have to say is that we need to check ourselves! No one is entitled to any help, it is a privilege to be helped out, to be seen and loved. A quick one to all of us, a person could be ungrateful, but not everyone is. Let’s continue to help those we can because people who really need  help, the grateful ones, are out there waiting for you.
