Have you ever dreamed of yourself living in the mystical “Garden of Eden” with its natural resources (not just crude oil or rocks but plants and animals), how it is the beauty of your days, with the friendly environment of mother earth? Yeah…. I know right! If dreams could come to pass… (Phew!).
A wise woman once said ” The environment is where we all meet; where all have a mutual interest; it is the one thing all of us share.”
As humans, I believe we have this notion that the earth is our serving palace where we are the king and she (Earth), our servant; with a believe that we can do as we like in and to our environment. We have forgotten how to be good guests; how to walk lightly on the earth as its other creatures do.
Few days ago, I was in deep thoughts and I began to reflect on how the mining industry, and agricultural industry amongst other industries are failing in sustaining our natural resources and the climate to be conducive for the next generation. I got to realise that the world is getting smaller, not in the physical aspect of course, but in the interactions of different parts of the world; the earthquake in a particular area can affect the standard of living of another. I got to realise that my environmemt is wounded with a lot of injuries due to some lackadaisical attitude towards the environment. When I say my environment…. I mean my country.
Nigeria is scarred with environmental issues scaling from air and water pollution to land degradation. I live in a country where political campaign is more important than the recycling of waste; where some people rather do ‘shot put’ than enjoy the privileges of a nice water closet. A country where the crude oil areas are left with little or no care which results to explosions or plants pollution.
Well, this post is not to rant too much on this discuss as I am working on interviewing some intellectual persons on environmental ethical issues, which would be posted here on my blog verrrryyyy soon. Having ethical questions like, “Do mining companies have a moral obligation to restore the natural environment destroyed by their Mining techniques?” And solition questions like “Which approach to climate change should one accept: technological innovation; Institutional Change; or Individual repentance?” And a lot more eco questions that is affecting our daily lives.
I’d like to oblige you to anticipate, with questions and expectations, the interviews with these authorities (identity unrevealed). Let’s come together to help our environment be the great “Garden of Eden” of our dreams.
Together we can make our environment healthy again

Personally, when I have waste to dispose and there’s no bin in sight, I keep it in my bag or hold till I find an appropriate place to dispose of it.

Some countries also recycle plastics by having people return them and get paid
while they do. The idea is like using an ATM but without cards.
God Bless Nigeria.
