THE WORD RAPE; WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU?

My mind wanders through the sea of unclear thoughts, the sky so heavily clouded with the thunderstorms and lightning bolt, all representing the transgressions of the planet earth. Maybe the rain would fall and wash them away. Maybe it will wash away the violence entrenched in my memory or even yours. But let’s be real, it takes the power of a supreme being to take away experiences of violence done on one especially that of rape. If one can survive it that is…

The issue of rape… (Sighs) The issue of rape for me is beyond what we traditionally believe it is, which according to Britannica is an act of intercourse by a man with a woman against her will. (To make it clearer any of the sexes can be raped and can rape.) I

Rape is a death trap, a life sentence of undeserved punishment. Most times, we limit our knowledge on just the actions but it is beyond that! The aftermath of it is what eats one deep inside, defining every decision the victim makes. While some victims summon the courage to live above it, some are traumatised and cannot move on with their beings.

Sometimes, when we are generous in small barely detectable ways, It can change someone’s life forever.
– Margaret Cho

It’s the aftermath of rape, not the rape itself that affects the victims. Some are left with nine months to decide how to move on while some are left with the rest of the lives to get over the experience. In a few words, the incidence of that particular violence defines the life decisions of most victims either for better or worse than worst… But this particular topic is not for me to discuss. But you, my readers. I need to know what the word rape means m to you.

Kindly drop your comment of what rape means to you. And if you are interested in posting an article, or poem or a story on “rape” on my blog, kindly send me a mail (alabioluwatosin48@gmail.com) with your work attached to it. And I promise to post. Thank you and please stay safe.

  1. The aftermath of anything at all is the defining factor of that act. So, you see, for rape, it’s an ever lasting scar that puts the victim in an everlasting bondage. But, however, he who cling to the past, stays in the past! The victim needs to allow the healing process so as to become a survivor.

  2. Nice topic you have dear. Come to think of it, I want to ask can rape be classified in the sense that some are raped based on forceful intercourse and the other can be classified as raping through emotional pressure from the rapist. For instance a girl asks a guy to help her financially and the knowing fully well that the girl is desperate for the help by this he takes advantage of the situation and sleeps with her even with her consent which we all know is pressurized. So therefore can one refer to the latter as rape.

  4. Rape!
Most people See’s rape as sexual intercourse with an individual without his/her consent, through force or threat of force.

To me, rape is when person intentionally penetrates another’s vagina, anus or mouth with a penis without the other person consent .
If such should happen (Rape). There things I think the person should do or should know
*know know that the rape wasn’t your fault
    *Seek medical care
*You have to learn to deal with your feelings which I know it won’t be that easy but you just have to learn to do that!
*Seek professional help or go for counseling
*Most important of all seek God’s help.

  5. As to the topic, real men don’t rape. Real men work on their self control and emotional control. I’m not so experienced with when the tables are turned (and the man gets raped).
